Paruna & Karakamia Wildlife Sanctuaries

Come and join us on an amazing self guided hike through the breathtaking Paruna Sanctuary followed by a guided nocturnal tour of the unique Karakamia Sanctuary.

Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Avon Valley approximately an 1 hour east of Perth near the small town of Gidgegannup. The bushland in the 2,000 ha Sanctuary includes jarrah, wandoo and powderbark forest combined with healthland and riparian habitat. There are a number of high quality walk trails at Paruna Sanctuary which vary in length and difficulty from the 2.5 km Possum Loop to the 13 km Numbat Track.

Karakamia Sanctuary covers 275 ha of jarrah forest in the southwest of Western Australia, less than 50 km from Perth. A unique feature of the Sanctuary is that it contains all the key habitats found within the Jarrah forest vegetation complex with over 260 species of plants. The Sanctuary supports viable populations of a range of threatened species that are now able to be used to restore populations at other appropriately managed sites.

With the Karakamia tour setting off at dusk delegates are likely to see a number of nocturnal animals including Woylies, Tammar Wallabies and Quenda (Southern Brown Bandicoots). This is a special experience as many of the animals you will see cannot readily be seen in a national park.
